Getting Married
Congratulations!
We are delighted that you have found each other and want to arrange your Wedding at St Mary's Church. We hope that the following, often asked, questions might help:
How do you go about organising your Wedding at St Mary's?
First you must arrange an initial meeting with the Vicar.
This is usually at the Vicar's Office Hour, which takes place in the Vestry at Church on Monday evenings from 6.45pm.
At that meeting he will complete an application form with you, book the date and time of your service and arrange to send you a copy of the “Marriage Pack” which is a detailed guide to getting married at St Mary's Church.
After this you will be invited to various activities to help you prepare for your special day.
Can I get married in Church?
There are two qualifications that entitle you to be married in your Parish Church:
- At least one of you must live in the parish or be a member of St Mary's church.
- Neither of you is divorced. Although there is no automatic right to entitle you to be married if either of you is divorced, St Mary's Church follows the policy of the Diocese of Liverpool and considers each enquiry individually.
Can I get married in the parish where my parents live and where I grew up?
Yes.
This is usually by application to be included on St Mary's Church Electoral Roll, which requires regular attendance for a six-month period. One of the advantages of this process is that you get to know the Church and the Church Family and they get to know you! Often this means that when we take your marriage service we are marrying friends!
Can I get married where I grew up, although neither my parents nor I live there any more?
Yes.
Again, this is usually by application to be included on St Mary's Church Electoral Roll, which requires regular attendance for a six-month period. One of the advantages of this process is that you get to know the Church and the Church Family and they get to know you! Often this means that when we take your marriage service we are marrying friends!
If in any doubt please do not hesitate to contact the Vicar.
When can I get married in Church?
Weddings can be conducted at the church on most Saturdays. Weddings can also be arranged on weekdays, and under special circumstances on Sundays.
How much does it cost?
The basic fee is agreed nationally by the Church of England each year and a detailed breakdown of the fees is contained in the “Marriage Pack” that will be sent to you when you see the Vicar to arrange your Wedding. Typically the total cost in the year 2003 is about £350.
(If there are difficult financial circumstances and payment of these fees will cause added problems for you, please do not hesitate to contact the Vicar)
