St Mary’s took 80 folk including 20 children to Centerparcs Whinfell Forest near Penrith this February. Some arrived early in the day and some in the dark to explore a friendly village with log lodges, forests, wildlife, nature & scenery in abundance. In addition were too many indoor and outdoor activities to explore & experience in a short weekend, but of which most of us took advantage in some way during our free time.
Our theme for the weekend was Body, Mind & Spirit, and our sessions were lead brilliantly by Rev Richard White and Jan Harvey. The children were in their very own cinema space with widescreen to join Christine & Roger Kinvig, and Emily Stanford from St Philemon’s Church in Toxteth for exciting activities. It snowed early Saturday morning to add to their excitement!
Each trek from the lodges to the Green Room for sessions allowed us to experience wonderful views, an abundance of wildlife, close up, including red squirrels and hawks, and the staff looked after our every need and the food was exceptional. Saturday night was entertainment night with a singing & dancing show of hits from the past. Then of course there was the swimming experience, indoor and out! Tropical temperatures and fun for all the family. Some children announced that they wanted to live at Centerparcs for ever! But there was something for all ages – ask Ken about his comfy apartment and nature on his doorstep.
